Workamajig – a popular choice among agencies and in-house alike, Workamajig (formerly Creative Manager Pro) offers an almost total package when it comes to managing the marketing function. While the developer offers training to it’s customer base, DesktopMedia can offer on-site/on-line training as well, for everything from the basics to “touch up” training. Custom class available upon request.
MarketingPilot – outline coming soon.
InDesign/InCopy
The InDesign/InCopy workflow, an entry level print publishing workflow designed to integrate copy writing/editorial functions with design/layout functions, is a great solution for the small publisher or the corporate publisher looking to standardize either technical documentation, review & approve, and/or streamline print marketing functions. DesktopMedia has been training and consulting in the applications for some time. Check out our training outlines. Extending this workflow with solutions built upon the InDesign Server platform is also something we have experience with: refer to XMPie’s solution as well as WoodWing’s publishing solutions, including their new ePub workflow for Digital Magazines.
Variable Data, Conditional Processing
XMPie – utilizing uPlan, uCreate, and uProduce use conditional processing to strategically develop and target demographics with special offers, version control and output ranging from personalized coupons, direct mail, signage, and much more. Harness the power of InDesign server and this powerful workflow. Custom class available on request.
uDirect – learn how to use this powerful InDesign plug-in to take datamerge to the next level by creating “conditions” based on your customer data. Spend the day learning how to merge data, create conditional objects, merge everything from files to variables, to create unique, one-of-kind printed pieces.
XML
While variable workflows utilize database connections and conditions to manage content and personalization, XML offers cross-media publishing utilizing structure and styling that can support not only the heavy lifting of production print publishing but consistent content ported to the web as well. DesktopMedia offers both a primer on XML as well as XML training within the context of an InDesign centered workflow.
Content Management/Digital Asset Management
While there are many types of content management systems (Document, Publishing, Learning, Media, Web, Enterprise) the underlying structure and the services that interact with that structure are constant: a database standard, along with a GUI that reflect the services you require for your workgroup, company or enterprise. Whether you require warehoused & shared content, collaboration, library functions, testing, online meetings, web publishing — whatever your needs of a CMS — there is something in the marketplace to fit the bill.
Documentum, Alfresco, Sharepoint, Vasont, Blackboard, Moodle, Portfolio, Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress all start with the basics: a database standard and then an interface that allows you to manage content (your specific content — images, video, chunks of technical documentation, quizzes, web content) with varying degrees of control.
Print Production Management
Acrobat – learn how to use preflight analysis, repair, validation and audit trail. Examine a file for multiple workflows, in this case, utilizing print production tools to pinpoint specific issues.
Pitstop – one of the original print production tools that let you get “under the hood” of a PDF and truly access and edit every element.
JDF – learn how to create and or participate in a JDF (job definition file) workflow. Either your service provider, or you if you have Acrobat Professional, can create an electronic job ticket in order to automate the print production workflow thru the print manufacturing plant.
